As we near the end of WIMA 2011, have to pack our bags and return to –well, for once, a very sunny England! – we’re full of excitement for the coming year. With announcements from Rovio that an NFC version of Angry Birds will be coming to Nokia phones; the NFC Forum’s white paper for SmartPosters making an interesting read, and of course, the news that Proxama are working alongside Nokia to develop their NFC marketing, this year’s WIMA congress hasn’t disappointed.

This month sees one of the world’s biggest NFC events: WIMA. Now in its 5th year, the Global NFC Congress promises to be even better than before. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet over 200 companies from all over the world and attend conferences that focus on both the technical aspects of near field communication, and the implications NFC can have on business. Between the 19th and the 21st April, the industry’s experts will be available to speak, meet and reveal all about the latest developments in NFC. Speakers include Nokia’s Mark Selby (VP Sales and Industry Collaborations); CEO of ITN International, Ivan Lazarev; and Dan Balaban, Editor of NFC Times. (A full list of speakers can be found here.) Delegates will have the opportunity to get a step ahead of the rest by attending NFC workshops networking with key players in the industry. Utilising NFC technology, Proxama have created an Evaluation Form which will be sent out via NFC at the event. Delegates will be able to leave feedback on the conference via their handsets. Members of the Proxama team will be there to present our latest developments in m-payments and proximity marketing. If you’re attending WIMA and would like to make an appointment to meet with either our Chief Exec, Neil Garner of Chief Architect, James Taylor, please contact us. James will be showcasing Proxama’s PosterTouch Demo kit (now available to buy) in Nokia’s NFC Zone, stands C4 - C9; and on Thursday 21st, Neil will be part of the panel of ‘A Global Interoperable Future (Touch Points, Platforms for Developers)’.

Proxama's mobile wallet, developed in association with MasterCard and Tuxedo Money Solutions, was recently showcased on the BBC Breakfast show. With mobile payments edging ever closer to becoming a mainstream reality, BBC viewers were shown how a mobile wallet would look and how it could start to make shopping experiences that much easier.
With life becoming increasingly busier and queues in coffee outlets getting longer each day, contactless payments are looking all the more exciting. With WIMA just around the corner (watch this space for exciting announcements!), near field communication is set to see some pretty big developments in both proximity marketing and m-payments. The BBC took to the streets to find out what people thought of Proxama's mobile wallet. View the video here:
While there do seem to be concerns about security, as there are with most new technologies that involve personal finances, the secuirty issues can be combatted. If you lose your wallet, you have the hassle of calling all the card companies you bank with in order to cancel your cards. Whereas, if you lose your mobile wallet, your cards are all in one place so all you have to do is call one number to cancel everything. M-payments actually make it easier to keep your money safe. If you're still not sure, you can always get hold of Proxama's TouchSafe technology so that no one can use your phone accept you.
Although there are understandably concerns in using NFC for payments, these worries can be avoided by employing the extra security on offer for mobile wallets. And we're sure that security will get even better over the coming months.
