This week sees Proxama announce our collaboration with Nokia on NFC activities. Starting with the C7, Proxama will be partnering with Nokia to develop NFC applications for the new generation of Smartphones. The first of these applications is our Tag Center app.
The Tag Center application will allow those with a Nokia NFC phone to read NFC tags in an engaging and creative format. These tags can be host to a variety of content; including vouchers, competitions, videos, travel information, social media pages and more. As the number of contactless products continue to grow, the next year will see NFC embraced by not only the payments industry but by the world of marketing as well. TagCenter will allow users to engage with traditional marketing campaigns in a new and exciting way; and what makes this even more attractive is that promotions and offers downloaded by users from SmartPosters can be redeemed instore using the same technology, a technology that is already in place. Payments Cards and Mobile reported this month that there are over 60,000 contactless terminals in the UK alone and c.130,000 across Europe, a figured that has climbed enormously since the start of 2011. And with NFC marketing entering the picture, contactless looks set to get even bigger.
Proxama's deal with Nokia, is a step closer to taking NFC marketing to the mainstream. Commenting on the deal, our Chief Exec, Neil Garner said: 'Mobile is truly coming of age this year so I am delighted that we have secured a deal that will reap benefits for so many. We expect take up of NFC activity to grow rapidly with millions of NFC-enabled handsets forecast to be distributed this year. Consumers have increasingly placed more importance on the role their mobile plays in their lives and this is a natural step-change.'
All those who can't wait to try out the latest TagCenter application on the Nokia C7, can visit our Chief Architect, James Taylor, at Nokia's stand during WIMA from tomorrow through to Thursday. Alternatively, if a last minute trip to Monaco isn't as realistic an option as you'd hope, you can also purchase Proxama's NFC Demo Kit which includes:
And very soon, we'll also be supplying Proxama's Tag Issuer application so you can create and manage your own tags.
